    In 2018, Fairtrade Australia & New Zealand (ANZ) launched its latest collaboration with the New Zealand Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (MFAT), a three year project aimed at increasing access to market for Fairtrade coffee and cocoa farmers in Papua New Guinea. This new project will run from January 2018 until June 2021 and aims to benefit an estimated 51,870 farmers and their households.

    In New Zealand, there is no government regulation around the use of the term  Fairtrade. As such the responsibility is on you to check the validity of claims, particularly if a product does not carry an independent certification mark.  In some cases, products can claim themselves as Fairtrade, fair trade or fairly traded, but can, in fact, be far from it. Greenwashing is often used, by promoting a product as more 'green' and environmentally friendly than what is true.

Accessible by boat or plane only, this remote cooperative found in the Morobe region is where coffee production all began when it first arrived in the country.
