Victoria’s La Trobe University was today recognised for its significant commitment to Fairtrade and its contribution to the empowerment of developing countries’ farmers and workers with the awarding of Fair Trade University status by the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand (FTAANZ).

Ben & Jerry’s has just announced its commitment to go fully Fairtrade across its entire global flavour portfolio.  From Cherry Garcia to Chocolate Fudge Brownie, all of the flavours in all of the countries where Ben & Jerry’s is sold (including Australia) will be converted to Fairtrade Certified™ ingredients by the end of 2013.

At last it’s happening, thanks to everybody who has helped us campaign for Fairtrade bananas, they are finally here in New Zealand. 

Fairtrade Certified bananas are being brought in from the El Guabo cooperative in Ecuador by a New Zealand owned company called All Good Organics.

Through Fairtrade, growers at El Guabo have already been able to invest projects for the community: in a medical clinic for workers and families, a retirement fund for growers and in education for local children.

 Fairtrade Labelling of Australia and New Zealand is pleased to announce that the 250g Whittaker’s Creamy Milk block is now Fairtrade Certified and will soon be in a store near you.

Kiwis across New Zealand will soon be able to enjoy Whittaker’s best selling block knowing that their purchase is helping Ghanaian cocoa farmers secure a better livelihood.

Fairtrade Labelling Australia & New Zealand today confirmed premium organic chocolate maker Green & Black’s will be going Fairtrade Certified
across the vast majority of its block chocolate and beverages range this year.

This year’s CSR Sugar Golden Bean Roaster Competition & Conference saw 34 Fairtrade Coffee licensees win over 71 awards across 7 different categories, with three roasters taking out Gold in the categories of Organic (The Bean Alliance), Filter (Fiori Coffee) and Café Chain/Franchise (Veneziano Coffee).  Click here for a full list of those businesses roasting Fairtrade Certified™ coffee who took out awards during the Competition.

Dunedin and Wellington are bringing North and South together in more ways than one as they are announced as New Zealand’s first Fair Trade Cities by the Fair Trade Association of Australia and New Zealand (FTAANZ).

The two cities are the first in the country to join the global consumer revolution campaigning for a better deal for farmers and workers in the developing world by promoting and supporting fair trade.

Pioneer Fairtrade Coffee Licensee República® has taken out the inaugural award for best Sydney Fair Trade business at this year’s City of Sydney Business Awards.

Jacqueline Arias started República® five years ago with the dream of doing something good and now República® coffee is available in supermarkets across Australia and all the way to LA on V Australia airlines.

Jacqueline said República® was thrilled to be voted the best Fair Trade business in Sydney.
