Make Mum’s day with a special spread that you create just for her.

Whether you’re planning a breakfast in bed to give her some much-needed relaxation time, or you want to put on an afternoon tea affair, we have ideas to ensure her day will be filled with love.

The star of the show: a decadent tiramisu, made with Fairtrade coffee

Republica Organic’s Fairtrade coffee tiramisu is decadent afternoon treat, combining layers of rich mascarpone and crunchy biscuit. Here, this traditional Italian dish is made with a twist: a generous serving of Fairtrade organic coffee, whose bitterness cuts through the sweetness of the dessert with ease.

Why Fairtrade on Mother’s Day?

Republica Organic coffee is sourced from Fairtrade certified farming cooperatives around the world, including Ethiopia, Sumatra, Peru and Papua New Guinea, which all benefit from the extra money they earn on every sale of Fairtrade coffee.

Two cooperatives in Ethiopia and Sumatra that provide coffee for Republica Organic have chosen to invest their Fairtrade Premium in education and scholarships – and what does Mum like more than seeing children thrive at school. The cooperatives – Ethiopian Oromia Coffee Farmers Cooperative Union and Sumatran Koperasi Baithul Qiradh Baburrayyan – also invest in farmer training, equipment and health clinics to benefit the whole community.

You won’t just be treating your mum to a delicious tiramisu, you’ll be helping coffee farmers across developing nations, too.

Making the tiramisu
Although there are a few elements to the dish, it couldn’t be simpler to prepare. You can even make it the day before and keep it in the fridge until it’s time to serve – just make sure you don’t spoil the surprise for Mum!

Then set the table…

Although the delicious food is the focus here, any celebration wouldn’t be complete without the finishing design touches. Roses are a classic option that would suit any taste, but a bright bunch of tulips would fit right in too. For something that will last well beyond the day itself, opt for a potted orchid that Mum can treasure for a long time yet.

Serve with some tart raspberries or strawberries to bring out the depth of the coffee flavours. For our mums, we have chosen to pair our Republica Organic tiramisu with some delicious tea, croissants and sweet tarts.

Use the nicest plates you can find. You don’t need to spend a lot of money, but opt for serving ware that’s a little bit of a departure from your family’s usual dinner plates. After all, when it comes to food, it’s the presentation that counts!
